Published on July 5, 2020, gospel singer Betty Bayo has made a shocking confession about her past, revealing she once bleached her face to please a man who preferred light-skinned women.
According to her Facebook post, Betty was determined to win over the man and bought a skin bleaching product to change her skin tone. However, to her surprise, the man ended up dumping her for another woman.
"I once fell in love with a young man I was sure he would marry me. I loved and adored him, he claimed he loved me too and he would marry me if only I was light-skinned," she wrote.
"The next thing he told me he would marry me if only I was a bit taller. I had no choice but to go back to my natural self," she added.
Betty urged her followers to learn from her story and not make the same mistakes she made, warning them about the dangers of low self-esteem and being in abusive relationships.
She also opened up about the pain she went through in the hands of her former husband, Pastor Victor Kanyari, who was exposed for allegedly extorting money from Kenyans through fake miracles in 2015.
