Published on July 4, 2020, Kenya has set a new record in daily COVID-19 cases, with 389 new infections reported.
According to Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe, all but three of the new cases are Kenyans, with ages ranging from one to 93 years.
The new cases were reported in various counties, including Nairobi (248), Kajiado (36), Kiambu (27), Mombasa (23), Busia (17), and Machakos (10).
Other counties that recorded new cases include Migori (9), Kitui (6), Makueni (3), Uasin Gishu (3), Nakuru (3), Kilifi (2), Garissa, Murang'a, and Narok, each with one case.
Health Minister Kagwe announced that 88 more people have been discharged from hospitals, bringing the recoveries tally to 2,236.
Unfortunately, five patients succumbed to the virus overnight, taking the country's COVID-19 death toll to 159.
"We have lost too many lives already," Kagwe said. "We must renew our commitment to observing containment measures to prevent further losses."
