Deputy President William Ruto has spoken out against the ousting of Jubilee leaders from their positions in Parliament, accusing President Uhuru Kenyatta of orchestrating the move.
Speaking at his Sugoi home in Uasin-Gishu County on July 4, 2020, Ruto said that several politicians affiliated with him had been threatened with court cases, tax evasion charges, and investigations by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) simply because of their association with him.
“In today's Kenya, several politicians [linked to me] are being threatened that they'd be taken to court for alleged graft-related offences, face tax evasion charges, or they’ll be investigated by EACC & consequently arraigned,” Ruto said.
Ruto's remarks come after he was criticized for keeping silent as his foot soldiers in both Houses of Parliament were being cut down to size by the President's 'Kieleweke' team.
So far, the DP's lieutenants in the Senate and the National Assembly have been ousted from their lucrative posts, including Elgeyo-Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen, Nakuru Senator Susan Kihika, Tharaka-Nithi Senator Kithure Kindiki, Garissa Township MP Aden Duale, and Mumias East lawmaker Benjamin Washiali, among others.
Additionally, 16 DP-affiliated senators and MPs lost their positions in various House committees.
Ruto urged church leaders to pray for those who are intolerant of others' opinions to be accommodating and for the country to live harmoniously as citizens of one nation.
