On June 25, a court ruling convicted Member of Parliament John Waluke and co-accused Grace Whakungu of graft, imposing a hefty fine of Ksh 727 million. If they fail to pay, they face a staggering 67 years in prison.

Waluke's wife has been at the forefront of an appeal to Kenyans to contribute towards the bail amount. The community has responded, raising Ksh 63,270 so far.

However, the family still has a long way to go to meet the required amount. Waluke and Whakungu were charged with five counts of graft related to the 297 million National Cereals and Produce Board (NCPB) maize scandal.
