On July 4, 2020, a Nairobi court heard a case of a man accused of obtaining over Sh2.2 million from a woman by falsely claiming he could sell her a market stall at the New Wakulima Market in Nairobi.

Anthony Kimathi Kiria, the accused, appeared before Milimani Magistrate Martha Nazushi and pleaded not guilty to the charges.

According to the court, Kimathi allegedly obtained Sh2,228,000 from Spence Diana Lumumba between September and December 2018 by claiming he could sell her a market stall at the New Wakulima market along Kang'undo road.

The court further heard that Kimathi made fake booking receipts for the new market, purporting them to be genuine from the county's revenue office, with the intent to defraud and without lawful authority.

Kimathi was also charged with making false documents without authority.

He was released on a bond of Sh1 million or alternative cash bail of Sh700,000 pending hearing and determination of his case.
