On July 4, 2020, Kenya confirmed 389 new COVID-19 cases, marking a new high in the number of infections recorded since the outbreak of the disease in the country.

According to Health CS Mutahi Kagwe, the new cases were confirmed after testing of 4,829 samples in the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of infections in the country to 7,577.

At the same time, five more patients have succumbed to the coronavirus disease, raising the number of fatalities recorded in the country to 159, while 88 have been discharged, pushing the number of recoveries to 2,236.

CS Kagwe warned that at the current rate of infection, the disease could overrun the country's healthcare facilities, saying, 'From the statistics, it is indicative that we have lost too many lives already. We cannot afford to lose any more. We, must therefore, as a nation, renew our commitment to observing the containment measures, without which, this disease could very easily overrun our healthcare facilities.'

The positive cases are distributed across various counties, including Nairobi, Kajiado, Kiambu, Mombasa, Busia, Machakos, Migori, Kitui, Makueni, Uasin Gishu, Nakuru, Kilifi, Garissa, Muranga, and Narok.
