Published on July 4, 2020, a bomb explosion at a restaurant in the southern Somali town of Baidoa has left six people dead, officials have confirmed.
Al-Shabab, a militant group allied to al-Qaeda, claimed responsibility for the attack, stating that they targeted tax collectors and soldiers who were holding a meeting at the restaurant.
However, officials disputed this claim, saying that the victims were all civilians.
Separately, a suicide bomb attack near the port of Mogadishu injured at least seven people, with two police officers and five passers-by among the wounded.
According to eyewitnesses, metal debris fell all over the port area, and gunfire was heard.
Al-Shabab has been waging a decade-long insurgency against the UN-backed government in Somalia.
