On June 15, 2020, Gor Mahia Football Club's Executive Committee (EC) announced the selection of three men to sit on the electoral board for the club's elections, scheduled for August 8.
The members of the electoral board are Henry Ogoye Kowero, a manager at Kenya Ports Authority, Kennedy Mbara, an advocate who will serve as secretary general, and Carilus Onyango, chairman of the Council of Gor Mahia branches.
Their responsibilities include supervising and conducting free and fair elections, scrutinizing nomination papers, determining the nomination fee, and making the final list of aspirants for various positions.
They will also set and announce dates for campaign kick-off, tally votes, and declare winners.
Francis Wasuna, the outgoing club vice chairman, stated that the names of the three men were chosen during an EC meeting last week, and all members trusted them with the responsibility of conducting fair elections.
However, Wasuna emphasized that the requirement for each aspirant to be a degree holder applies to all elective positions, as stated in Gor Mahia's constitution.
"The ball is now on the electoral board's court, and they should discharge their duties within the law and Gor Mahia's constitution," Wasuna said.
Aspirants have begun announcing their interests, with Sally Bollo, the outgoing treasurer, declaring her candidacy for the vice chairman position, currently held by Wasuna.
Former Migori MP John Pesa has also expressed interest in Wasuna's position.
Notably, no aspirant has declared interest in the chairman position, currently held by Lawyer Ambrose Rachier.
Outgoing organizing secretary Judith Anyango is seeking to become the next treasurer, a position currently held by Dolfina Odhiambo of Gor Mahia Augmentin Fund.
