On June 19, 2020, a missing person report was filed at the Kangeta Police Station in Meru County, sparking a kidnapping investigation.

Three suspects, Joseph Kariithi, Patrick Kimathi, and Daniel Muroki, were arrested on Saturday after detectives linked them to the case.

Residents in Kiutune area, Igembe Central Sub-County, had spotted the suspects earlier, leading police to the area where the victim was found.

The victim had been held for two weeks and was taken for a medical check-up after being rescued.

Police also collected evidence from the scene.

Meru County has seen a string of kidnapping cases in recent years, including one in 2019 where seven suspects were arrested and charged with assault after attempting to forcefully circumcise a woman.

The suspects were arrested after a complaint was filed by Christine Murithi, the daughter of the complainant, at the Marima patrol base.

Police investigations are ongoing to gather more evidence and witnesses to charge the suspects with additional crimes, including sexual harassment.
