On April 2018, a long-standing land dispute at Mashangwa area in Trans Mara escalated into violence, resulting in the deaths of two people.

According to a High Court ruling in Kisii, Jones Wambura, Tagane Mwita, and Stephen Mahigara were found guilty of killing Samuel Magige and Samuel Nyamuroni.

Justice Roseline Ougo presided over the case, which involved a land dispute between the accused and Nyamuroni.

Dr. Peter Momanyi, a prosecution witness, testified that a postmortem on the victims' bodies revealed multiple stab wounds and deep cuts.

On July 4, 2020, the High Court in Kisii sentenced Wambura, Mwita, and Mahigara to 30 years in jail for each of the two offences, with the sentences running concurrently.

They have the right to appeal within 14 days.
