On June 19, 2020, a family in Meru County reported a missing person at Kangeta Police Station, sparking a joint operation by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) and police officers.

After a 14-day search, the victim was rescued from a thicket in the Kiutune area of Igembe Central Sub-County, where he had been held by three suspects.

Patrick Kimathi, Joseph Karithi, and Daniel Muroki, all under the age of 30, were arrested and are in lawful custody. The suspects had demanded a ransom of Sh150,000 from the victim's family.

Following the rescue, the victim was taken for a medical checkup, and several items recovered from the scene were kept as exhibits.

According to the DCI, the suspects led officers to the thicket where the victim was found after being interrogated.

“Following a missing person report that had been made at Kangeta Police Station in Meru County on June 19, 2020, a team of detectives working jointly with police officers mounted an intelligence-led operation within Kiutune area of Igembe Central Sub-County,” said the DCI on Twitter.
