On July 4, 2020, a police officer stationed at Kombewa Police Station in Kisumu, Kenya, was accused of defiling and impregnating a 15-year-old girl.
The minor, a class 8 pupil, was allegedly repeatedly defiled by the police officer in question.
According to Seme sub-county Officer Commanding Police Division Hellen Rotich, a probe had been launched into the matter, with a vow to take tough action if the officer is found culpable.
The incident has raised concerns among children protection actors, who point out that the closure of schools in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic has exposed teenage girls to sex predators.
