On a typical Saturday morning, Tom Githinji can be found in his kitchen, whipping up a storm of culinary delights. But what sets him apart from other home chefs is his unique approach to cooking, which he believes is an art form in itself.

As a self-taught visual artist, Tom has a keen eye for detail and a passion for creativity. He makes and sells jewelry, wall arts, and cards on social media, and his love for cooking started when he was young.

Tom's earliest memory in the kitchen was preparing breakfast for his family, and he has since honed his skills through trial and error. He credits his aunt for teaching him how to deep-fry sweet potatoes, a recipe he still prepares to this day.

When asked if food is art, Tom's response is unequivocal: 'Yes! Food is an art. From preparation, presentation to the taste.'

Tom's love for cooking is not just about creating delicious meals, but also about exploring different cuisines and experimenting with new recipes. He appreciates the process of creating something from scratch and the joy of sharing his creations with others.

As a home cook, Tom advises others to feel free to experiment with unfamiliar ingredients and not to be discouraged if things don't turn out as expected. 'If it doesn't work out, don't be disappointed. Just try something else.'

Tom's kitchen cabinet is stocked with essentials like ginger, coriander, garlic, salt, turmeric, and pepper, which he uses to whip up a variety of dishes, from pancakes to omelettes.

With his artistic twist on traditional Kenyan dishes, Tom is a true inspiration to home cooks everywhere.
