Meet Anthony Ashioya, the Talented Actor Behind Tekno in Citizen TV's Maria Series ¶
Anthony Ashioya, a seasoned actor and model, has been making waves in the Kenyan entertainment industry with his portrayal of Tekno in Citizen TV's popular drama series Maria.
With a background in Electrical Engineering, Ashioya's journey into the arts was not an easy one. He studied Electrical Engineering at Zetech University but found his true passion in the arts. After graduating, he chose to pursue a career in acting and modeling, and the rest, as they say, is history.
As Tekno, Ashioya brings to life a complex character who is both street-smart and unreliable. But what makes him tick? In an exclusive interview with Kenyans.co.ke, Ashioya delved into his journey into the arts, his experiences as an actor, and what it takes to bring a character like Tekno to life.
When asked about how his background in Engineering has helped him in his acting career, Ashioya revealed that it has been a huge advantage. 'Yes, it has, because I'm required to do some electrical work while acting, which is something I'm familiar with,' he said.
As for what's next for Tekno, Ashioya teased that viewers can expect more surprises in the upcoming episodes of Maria. 'Well, Tekno doesn't promise anything to anyone. All I can say is expect more surprises because that's what I'm about to serve you,' he said.
When asked about the funniest person in the cast, Ashioya couldn't help but mention Pupa, who always has funny stories of how he's had narrow escapes every weekend.
With a career spanning five years, Ashioya has appeared in several productions, including Varshita, Sue na Johnny, 18 Hours, Lockdown, and KIU. He has also done TV commercials and billboards for brands like Jambojet, Madison insurance, KCB weka weka, Guinness, and Imperial leather.
As for what he thinks should change in Kenya's film industry to grow it, Ashioya believes that it's time to write and produce more authentic Kenyan stories. 'That is the only way the world out there will get to see and know more of our culture,' he said.
Finally, when asked about what misconceptions about acting or modeling he's had to overcome, Ashioya revealed that there have been many. 'Most people tend to think that this is an easy way in life. Some think that since you appear on TV that now you are rich. Most think since you've bagged your first modeling gig that you are now a big shot. Lastly, people think it's easy to make it in the industry,' he said.
