On July 4, 2020, twin explosions shook Somalia's largest cities, leaving a trail of death and destruction in their wake.
A car bombing near the port in Mogadishu and a land mine detonation on the outskirts of Baidoa claimed the lives of four people, with several others wounded.
According to Ali Abdullahi, an official from the South West regional state, the land mine was detonated inside a restaurant by remote control as people were dining.
There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the attacks, but the al-Shabaab group, linked to al-Qaida, has a history of targeting the city.
Thick smoke billowed over the port area in Mogadishu after the car bomb detonated near the motor vehicle imports duty authority headquarters, according to police.
Five police officers were wounded in the blast, which occurred after the bomber sped through the first security checkpoint before police opened fire on the vehicle, which exploded outside the gates, said Ismail Mukhtar, a spokesman for Somalia's information ministry.
