Published on July 4, 2020, Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru withdrew a list of proposed reconciliation committee members, citing feedback against the team.
The proposed team, announced on July 2, included non-political and non-partisan leaders from Kirinyaga, such as J.S. Mathenge, a Kirinyaga Elder and former PS, and Archbishop Anthony Muheria.
However, MCAs led by Kirinyaga Majority Leader Kamau Murango vowed not to participate in any peace talks, stating they were not consulted in the creation of the list.
Archbishop Muheria also stated that he had not been consulted, while PS Kimonye declined the appointment.
The move comes after a failed impeachment motion by the MCAs at the senate, leading to a standoff between the governor and the county assembly.
The MCAs had amended the 2020/2021 Budget, reducing the executive's legal fees from Ksh 60 million to Ksh1 million and almost doing away with the entire Sh111 million allocated for the Office of County Secretary.
