Published on July 4, 2020, a draft law aimed at nationalizing Kenya Airways has been tabled in parliament.
The National Aviation Management Bill, 2020, proposes the establishment of the Kenya Aviation Corporation as a holding company for Kenya Airways and the Kenya Airports Authority.
Under the proposed law, Kenya Airways will operate as a state-owned airline, carrying passengers, cargo, mail, and goods within Kenya and internationally.
The airline will be directed by the Kenya Aviation Corporation Board and will have an initial share capital of KSh7.5 billion.
The corporation will be managed by a Board of Directors, comprising the Chairperson appointed by the President, the Attorney-General or their representative, and other key officials.
The Chairperson and independent non-executive Board Members will serve for a period of three years, with the option to re-appoint for one further term.
