On July 4, 2020, an operation by the Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) intelligence team led to the arrest of three suspects in a kidnap syndicate in Meru county.

The suspects, Patrick Kimathi, Joseph Karithi, and Daniel Muroki, all 30 years old, were apprehended inside Njuri Ncheke forest in Mpinda village.

According to the officers, the suspects had allegedly kidnapped a victim for 14 days and demanded KSh 150,000 as ransom from the family in exchange for the victim's release.

Thanks to the help of the public, the suspects were sighted and apprehended when they attempted to flee.

During further interrogations, the suspects agreed to lead the officers to a nearby thicket where the victim was rescued after two weeks of abduction.

The victim was taken for medical checkup, and the suspects were taken into lawful custody. Several items recovered from the scene were kept as exhibits.
