On July 4, 2020, Ezekiel Mutua, the CEO of the Kenya Film Classification Board, weighed in on the controversy surrounding media personality Anita Nderu's recent video.
During her 'The overdressed cook' vlog, Anita Nderu hosted two gay men who openly discussed their sexuality. In response, Ezekiel Mutua took to Twitter to express his disapproval, calling Anita's show a 'pathetic attempt to promote homosexuality'.
He stated, '#anitanderu's gay show was a pathetic attempt to promote homosexuality in the name of user-generated content and freedom of expression. No brand worthy its name should be proud of this madness. It's laziness of mind and lack of imagination to fall for such cheap gimmick!'
Following the controversy, Pwani oils issued a statement distancing themselves from Anita Nderu, who had featured their product in the video.
They clarified, 'We have not engaged Anita Nderu for product placement or any other advertising of any kind. However, we would like to thank her for being a Fresh Fri consumer. Fresh Fri is keen on delivering quality products that promote #HealthyLiving.'
