July 4, 2020 - Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru has withdrawn a seven-member team tasked with mediating a truce between the executive and the County Assembly following an impeachment ouster.

The team, proposed by the Kirinyaga county executive, was meant to oversee a peace and reconciliation process in the county. However, the move was met with resistance from a section of the MCAs, who claimed they were not consulted.

Majority Leader Kamau Murango led the MCAs in rejecting the list, prompting Waiguru to withdraw the proposed names and give room for further consultations.

Waiguru's swift action comes after the Senate found no evidence of corruption and abuse of office against her last week, following an unsuccessful impeachment attempt.

According to Waiguru, the list of names shared was a proposal from the Kirinyaga County Executive, and she wished to withdraw the proposed names to give room for further consultations.

The seven-member team, composed of non-political and non-partisan leaders from Kirinyaga, was tasked with coming up with terms of engagement and convening reconciliation meetings between the executive and the County Assembly.

The team included notable figures such as J.S. Mathenge, a Kirinyaga Elder and former PS, and Archbishop Anthony Muheria.
