On July 4, 2020, Infrastructure Cabinet Secretary James Wainaina Macharia confirmed Engineer Murira Kinoti as the new boss of the Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA). Kinoti emerged top in a transparent recruitment process, impressing the board with his skills and experience.
As the new Director-General, Kinoti will oversee the management of all public roads in cities and municipalities across the country. He has a wealth of experience in the infrastructure sector, having initiated major programs at KURA, including the Roads Annuity program and the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) for road maintenance in counties.
During his tenure as acting Director-General, Kinoti widened the road network in all 47 counties, enabling the authority to achieve 80% of Vision 2030 and Agenda Four, which aims to propel Kenya to a middle-income level by the next decade.
Kinoti has also been advocating for the establishment of cost rate regulations in the infrastructure sector to provide guidelines and reduce cost overruns. He has been pushing for better value for money in road projects and encouraging indigenous contractors to compete fairly with foreign contractors.
With a Master's degree in Business Administration (Corporate Management) and a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Nairobi, Kinoti is well-equipped to lead KURA to greater heights.
