Tea Auction Sees Slight Price Hike in June 2020

Published on July 4, 2020, the Mombasa Tea Auction held on June 29-30, 2020, saw a significant increase in the amount of tea offered for sale, with 12.5 million kilograms up for grabs.

This marked a 13.8% increase from the 10.9 million kilograms offered during the same period in 2019, but a 3.9% decrease from the 12.9 million kilograms sold in the previous week.

Of the tea offered, 10.1 million kilograms were sold, a notable increase from the 9.1 million kilograms sold in the same period in 2019 and a slight decrease from the 11.7 million kilograms sold in the previous sale.

Prices also saw a slight increase, with an average price of $1.81 per kilogram, compared to $1.78 in the previous sale and a decrease from $1.82 for the same period last year.

As the tea industry continues to evolve, the Mombasa Tea Auction remains a crucial platform for tea traders and producers.
