Kenyan journalist Sharon Barang'a has faced a double tragedy in the past month, losing her father and her job at NTV in the ongoing reorganisation at Nation Media Group.

Her father passed away on June 5, 2020, and she announced the news on Twitter, receiving a heartwarming reception from her followers.

Just days later, on July 3, she received a termination letter from her employer, leaving her heartbroken.

Sharon took to Twitter to share her news, saying, 'I have lost my dad and job in one month. It is well. I am hanging in there. Thank you all for the calls, messages and prayers.'

Her news sparked an outpouring of love from fellow journalists and her fans, with BBC journalist Ian Wafula reaching out with a message of prayer and hope.

Over 300 journalists have lost their jobs since Covid-19 struck, and many have taken their careers to the digital sphere, with notable examples including Asha Mwilu, Betty Kyallo, and Jalang'o, who have set up YouTube platforms.
