Kenya has been grappling with a worrying trend of teenage pregnancies, with the country recording a significant number of cases in recent years.
According to a researcher, the 'usasa' culture has been a major contributor to this problem, as it has led to a shift away from traditional values and towards a more Westernized way of life.
Bi Hamira Saidi, a researcher on Swahili culture, attributes the rise in teenage pregnancies to the influence of Western culture and the abandonment of traditional values.
Speaking to Taifa Leo in an interview, Dr. Saidi pointed out that the 'usasa' culture has led to a change in the way people dress and behave, particularly among young people.
"In the past, a girl who had her hair cut was not allowed to wear makeup or wear certain types of clothing. But now, you see young girls walking around with their hair cut and wearing revealing clothing," she said.
Dr. Saidi also blamed the 'usasa' culture for the rise in teenage pregnancies, citing the influence of Western culture and the abandonment of traditional values.
"The 'usasa' culture has led to a change in the way people dress and behave, particularly among young people. It has also led to a change in the way people think about sex and relationships," she said.
Dr. Saidi also pointed out that the 'usasa' culture has led to a change in the way people view marriage and relationships, with many young people now viewing marriage as a form of companionship rather than a lifelong commitment.
"In the past, marriage was seen as a lifelong commitment, but now it is seen as a form of companionship. This has led to a change in the way people view relationships and has contributed to the rise in teenage pregnancies," she said.

Dr. Saidi also emphasized the need for parents to take a more active role in guiding their children and teaching them traditional values.
"Parents need to take a more active role in guiding their children and teaching them traditional values. They need to teach them the importance of marriage and relationships and the consequences of engaging in premarital sex," she said.
Dr. Saidi also pointed out that the 'usasa' culture has led to a change in the way people view sex and relationships, with many young people now viewing sex as a form of recreation rather than a means of procreation.
