On July 2, 2020, a Kenyan court handed down a life sentence to a police officer found guilty of raping a pregnant woman who had sought help at Lamu Police Station.
According to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecution (ODPP), Rodgers Ouma, 28, was convicted of rape and abuse of authority as a police officer.
As reported by the ODPP, Ouma lured the 26-year-old victim to his house at Langoni Police Lines, where he sexually assaulted her.
The court heard that the victim had gone to the police station on December 8th, 2019 to report that her husband was trying to force her to take abortion pills.
After filing the report, the victim returned home, but Ouma stopped her and offered to help her solve the matter, taking advantage of the situation to sexually abuse her.
