Published on July 4, 2020, a church elder in Kakamega town has been arrested for allegedly sexually abusing five young girls.
According to Kakamega Central Sub County Police Commander David Kabena, the suspect lured the girls into his rented house in Amalemba estate with freebies, where he committed the indecent acts.
The girls have undergone medical check-ups, and the police are also hunting down another accomplice who works in cohorts with the suspect.
Kabena noted that parents had abdicated their responsibility during the Covid-19 pandemic, sending their children to hawk fast foods in the streets, which has led to the disappearance of many children.
He warned that the police will arrest and prosecute parents who allow their underage children to hawk goods in the streets.
Additionally, Kabena revealed that gambling was on the rise during the pandemic, and the police set ablaze over 40 gambling machines valued at Sh3.28 million, as a single machine goes for Sh80,000.
