On July 4, 2020, Governor Anyang' Nyong'o clarified that Maseno University will not take over Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital (JOOTRH).

Earlier reports had suggested that the county government was working on proposals to transfer the management and funding of the facility from the county and national governments to a parastatal, which could fund its operations independently.

However, Governor Nyong'o stated that the intention of his government is to create a partnership with Maseno University to improve training on medical courses, not to hand over the hospital's management.

He emphasized that the goal is to enhance medical training and not to cede control of the hospital to the university.
