Published on July 4, 2020, a church elder in Kakamega has been arrested for allegedly molesting five young girls, aged 2 to 5.

According to Kakamega Central Sub County Police Commander David Kabena, the suspect lured the girls into his rented house in Amalemba estate with freebies, where he committed indecent acts.

The girls have undergone medical check-ups, and the police are also interrogating the suspect to determine if he is part of a syndicate kidnapping children in Kakamega town.

Kabena noted that parents had abdicated their responsibility during the Covid-19 pandemic, sending their children to hawk fast foods in the streets, which has led to many children going missing.

He warned that the police will arrest and prosecute parents who allow their underage children to hawk goods in the town.

Additionally, Kabena revealed that gambling was on the rise during the pandemic, and the police set ablaze over 40 gambling machines valued at Sh3.28 million, as they are only licensed by the Betting Control and Licensing Board (BCLB).
