Manchester United missed a golden opportunity to sign Leroy Sane from Manchester City, according to former Old Trafford favourite Dwight Yorke.

On July 3, 2020, Manchester City bid farewell to the 24-year-old Germany winger, who joined Bayern Munich in a deal worth £54.8million.

Yorke, who played for Manchester United from 1998 to 2002, expressed his disappointment that the club did not make a last-ditch attempt to sign Sane, who he believes would have been a valuable addition to the team.

"I would have hijacked the boy Sane," Yorke said. "He's a terrific player, direct, with pace, power, and at the right age and the right ingredients."

Yorke also emphasized the importance of strengthening the team's defense, suggesting that a central defender should be high on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's shopping list. He praised Napoli's Kalidou Koulibaly as a top target, saying, "That's the name everyone is after and quite rightly so because he has shown he is a terrific player."

Yorke has been impressed with the form of Bruno Fernandes since his January transfer and dismissed any suggestions that the Portugal international would struggle playing alongside Paul Pogba.
