Germany's nursing profession has undergone significant reforms since the passage of the nursing reform law in June 2017. As of 2020, the first two years of generalist nursing education are being offered at the gfg Rostock.

During the initial two years, trainees are taught generalist nursing skills alongside elderly, health, and pediatric care. This comprehensive education enables them to make informed decisions and provide high-quality care to patients of all ages.

Upon completion of the first two years, trainees can choose to specialize in elderly care, health care, or pediatric care. The third year of training allows them to continue their generalist education as a nurse or pursue a specialization in care for men and women of all generations.

The new generalist nursing education offers several benefits, including:

  • No college costs
  • Adequate coaching allowance
  • Flexible switching between professions
  • More responsibility and independent decisions for nursing professionals
  • Recognition of the profession in other EU nations
