On July 2, 2020, residents of Segut Village in Nandi County were met with a gruesome discovery: the body of a 40-year-old man suspected to have been killed by dogs.

The deceased, identified as Geoffrey Kipruto, a retired police officer, had visited a friend in the neighborhood on the evening of July 1, 2020. According to eyewitnesses, the dogs from a neighboring farm, which was home to 13 German shepherd dogs, broke through the fence and attacked Kipruto as he walked back home at around 11 pm.

Elvis Ruto, a neighbor, recounted the events of that fateful night: "The neighbors' dogs sneaked out of the compound and attacked Kipruto. But nobody heard him calling for help until the following morning when his mutilated body was found," he said.

The villagers were outraged and protested on July 2, 2020, demanding the arrest of the dogs' owner. However, police intervened and calmed the situation before the residents could take matters into their own hands.

Chesumei OCPD Omukolongolo Bosita confirmed the incident and stated that the police arrived at the scene in the morning to find Kipruto's body with severe injuries to his head, chest, legs, and private parts. The body was taken to the County Hospital morgue in Kapsabet for further examination.

Investigations are ongoing to determine the extent of the owner's negligence and whether the dogs had attacked locals in the past. The Sub County Police boss warned that legal action would be taken against the owner if negligence was established.
