Kirinyaga County Forms Committee to Reconcile Governor Anne Waiguru and MCAs ¶
Published on July 3, 2020
A special committee has been formed in Kirinyaga County to reconcile Governor Anne Waiguru and the county's MCAs, who had voted to impeach her over gross misconduct.
The seven-member committee, composed of elders, religious leaders, and other non-political former civil servants, will oversee peace and reconciliation between the two opposing camps.
The committee will come up with engagement terms and convene reconciliation meetings to successfully achieve its mandate and ensure seamless delivery of services.
According to Governor Waiguru, the county remains focused on service delivery to the people of Kirinyaga and accomplishing the set development agenda in the next two years.
However, the ward representatives had voted to impeach the governor over gross misconduct that included influencing tendering process and abuse of office.
She was cleared of all the charges when the matter went before a special senate committee chaired by Senator Cleophas Malala.
Malala's team noted that there existed poor working relationship between the office of the governor and the ward politicians.
"The condescending attitude of the governor towards the county assembly is uncalled for and does not inspire confidence and trust in the county executive leadership," the committee recommended.
The committee recommends that the Senate invites the county assembly and the governor to a consultative process that will restore a functioning government to Kirinyaga.
