On Thursday, 2 July, Nakuru County Senator Susan Kihika delivered a harsh statement on police brutality during the funeral of three victims of police brutality in Lessos. The incident has sparked a heated debate, with many Kenyans weighing in on the matter.
Speaking at the funeral, Senator Kihika warned that if police officers continue to kill innocent souls instead of protecting them, Kenyans may end up burning all police stations. Her statement, which has been met with mixed reactions, reads: 'We shall not stand and watch you do this to our fellow Kenyans, tutachoma police stations zote Kenya if this continues.'
According to reports, police officers killed three residents in Lessos last week, including a handicapped man who intervened when an officer was harassing a boda boda rider for not wearing a mask. The incident has sparked widespread outrage, with many calling for an end to police brutality.
Martha Karua, the leader of the NARC party, has referred to Senator Kihika's statement as 'grit' and emphasized the importance of putting every speech into context. However, not everyone agrees with Senator Kihika's approach, with some critics accusing her of hypocrisy and others praising her for speaking out.
