On July 3, 2020, Interior CS Fred Matiang'i and his health counterpart, Mutahi Kagwe, visited the home of Mirimani sub-chief Patricia Wandia in Kiambu county. Wandia, a mother of two, has been blind for two years after falling ill.
Despite her disability, Wandia continues to serve her residents, earning the admiration of CS Matiang'i. The CS pledged the government's full support to Wandia, donating foodstuffs to her.
Earlier in the day, Matiang'i and Kagwe met with the National Chief's Forum, urging them to take action against sexual and gender-based violence during the COVID-19 pandemic.
President Uhuru Kenyatta had previously warned chiefs that they would be held accountable for any cases of defilement under their watch. Matiang'i also directed the chiefs to actively participate in the implementation of the Kazi Mtaani Initiative, a youth employment program set to be launched in the next few days.
