On July 3, 2020, Lesa Kilonzo made history by graduating from the US military academy, a feat she described as one of the most challenging things she has done in her life.
Originally from Kenya, Lesa moved to the US on a Green Card and applied to join the military, a process she found to be quite difficult due to the changing recruitment policies.
"It's been one hell of a ride!! One of the most challenging things I've done in my life (unplanned and unprovoked lol)..Today I'm grateful coz we graduated!!!!" she wrote on her Instagram page.
Despite the challenges, Lesa's determination paid off, and she was congratulated by many Kenyans on social media who expressed pride over her achievement.
The US military has five branches of service, including the Army, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard, and Marine Corps. To join the military, one must have a permanent resident card (Green Card), be living in the US, and be able to speak, read, and write English fluently.
