July 3, 2020 - In a remarkable display of innovation, Nyandarua-based Jua Kali artisan Mzee Peter Mbugua Ndung'u has invented a multipurpose machine that simplifies life for urban livestock farmers.
The machine, named Posh Mix, is a combination of four machines that can mill grain, crush stalks, cut chaff, and mix dry matter into a perfect animal or chicken feed.
Posh Mix has gained international recognition, with Mbugua selling the machine in Burundi, Rwanda, and Tanzania during international exhibitions.
Locally, Mbugua has sold the machine to people from as far as Meru and Kitui, who learned about it from exhibitions and shows he attended.
Despite his success, Mbugua laments the lack of support for the Jua Kali sector in Nyandarua, citing wrangles among officials, land grabbing, and a lack of support from the county government.
He fears that individual artisans may miss out on affordable housing projects in the county, which could provide a significant boost to the local economy.
