July 3, 2020, marked a significant day for Jacque Maribe, a former Citizen TV journalist, as she announced her intention to join politics. However, her decision comes at a time when she is facing a murder trial.
Maribe and her ex-fiancé Jowie Irungu are suspected of murdering businesswoman Monica Kimani in 2018. The gruesome murder took place at Kimani's house in Lamuria Gardens, Kilimani area, where Jowie was the last person to be seen.
As the case continues in court, Maribe has been receiving messages from people asking if she will run for office. In an Instagram Live session, she stated, 'I have not ruled it out but what I’m saying is, I have not declared it. I’m receiving a lot of messages with people asking if I will run.'
Maribe's decision to join politics may not be a surprise, given her background as a senior Political reporter for Citizen TV. She reported on all the Jubilee Campaigns and even followed President Uhuru Kenyatta to South Africa after the 2017 elections.
With friends in high places, including the President himself, DP William Ruto, Moses Kuria, and Johnson Sakaja, Maribe's decision to join politics may have been influenced by her connections. However, her ambition may face a challenge from current Murang'a Woman Rep Sabina Chege.
