Kenya's Ministry of Health announced 247 new COVID-19 cases on July 3, 2020, as the national tally reached 7,188. The new cases were confirmed after 4,147 samples were tested in the last 24 hours.
According to Health CAS Dr. Rashid Aman, the cumulative samples tested so far now stand at 180,206. The new cases comprised 242 Kenyans, 5 foreigners, 164 males, and 83 females. The youngest case was a one-year-old infant, while the oldest was 100 years old.
The new cases were distributed across various counties, with Nairobi reporting the highest number of infections. In Nairobi, the new cases were reported in Kibra (35), Westlands (28), Dagorreti North (16), and Embakasi East (12).
Dr. Aman also announced that two more patients had succumbed to the respiratory disease, while 39 more patients were discharged from various health facilities across the country after recovering from the disease.
So far, the total number of recoveries stands at 2,148, while the total number of fatalities is 154. This announcement comes at a time when there are recommendations to reopen schools in January 2021.
