On April 1, 2018, a tragic incident occurred in Kenyamangari village, Mashangwa location, Trans Mara, where two colleagues, Samuel Magige and Samuel Nyamuroni, lost their lives in a brutal attack.

Justice Roseline Ougo of the Kisii High Court has since delivered a ruling, finding Jones Wambura, Tagane Mwita, and Stephen Mahigara guilty of the heinous crime. The court heard that the three men had attacked Magige and Nyamuroni with the intention of causing death or grievous bodily harm.

According to the prosecution, the three men were involved in a land dispute with Nyamuroni, which led to the altercation resulting in the deaths of Magige and Nyamuroni. The court was told that Nyamuroni had visited his demolished house the previous day, accompanied by a motorbike rider, but was stopped by the three accused persons who were armed and out to attack them.

Dr. Peter Momanyi, who conducted the postmortem on the bodies of Magige and Nyamuroni, revealed that the two men had suffered multiple stab wounds and deep cuts on various parts of their bodies inflicted by sharp objects.

Wambura, 32, Mwita, 35, and Mahigara, 46, all denied the charges, with Wambura claiming he knew nothing about the incident and only heard about it when he was brought to court. Mwita denied committing the two offences and stated that he did not know Mahigara before their arrest. Mahigara, on the other hand, claimed he was innocent and was framed by some people who did not wish him well.

Justice Ougo ruled that the three men would each serve a 30-year jail sentence for each of the two offences, with both sentences running concurrently.
