On July 3, 2020, the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) handed former men's marathon World Record Holder Wilson Kipsang a four-year doping ban due to whereabouts failure.

According to World Athletics, Kipsang had four whereabouts failures between April 2018 and May 2019, which led to an automatic ban under the World Athletics Anti-Doping Rules.

As a bronze medallist at the 2012 Olympics, Kipsang had been provisionally suspended in January for whereabouts failures and tampering by providing false evidence.
