On July 3, 2020, a study conducted by the Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI) commissioned by the Ministry of Health revealed that approximately 2.6 million Kenyans have been exposed to the Coronavirus.

According to Health Chief Administrative Secretary (CAS) Dr. Rashid Aman, the study further showed that about half a million people in Nairobi County are likely to have been exposed to the virus.

Dr. Aman noted that the findings were preliminary since the sample size was very small and that the samples were obtained from national blood transfusion centers representing most parts of Kenya to check if they had antibodies or were negative.

Meanwhile, 247 persons tested positive for COVID-19 in the last 24 hours after 4,147 were tested, bringing the total number of positive cases in the country to 7,188.

Dr. Aman also announced that 39 persons have been discharged after full recovery, while 3 patients succumbed to the disease.

The total number of recoveries now stands at 2,148, while total fatalities are now at 154.

Cumulatively, 180,206 persons have been tested since the government started the voluntary testing exercise.

Of the 247 positive cases, 242 are Kenyans, while 5 are foreigners. Dr. Aman further revealed that 164 are male, 83 are female, while the youngest is a one-year-old infant and the oldest is 100 years.

The cases are distributed in various counties, with Nairobi recording 153 positive cases.

Director of Health Services Dr. Patrick Amoth assured Kenyans that the recovery rate compares well with world standards, saying it is at 2.29 percent compared to 6.7 percent world fatality rate.

Dr. Amoth also revealed that the ministry has communicated to the county governments to do away with sanitization booths, saying they pose a danger to residents.
