On July 3, 2020, Dr Stella Nyanzi, a former Makerere University research fellow and activist, signaled her entry into politics by picking nomination forms to run for the Kampala District Woman MP seat on the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) party ticket.
Dr Nyanzi, who was recently released from prison, has been consulting constituency members and conducting a problem analysis of Kampala, which she believes has led her to decide to run for the seat.
According to Dr Nyanzi, most MPs who enter Parliament forget the grievances of their voters, and she is determined to change the face of politics in the city.
Dr Nyanzi is not the only FDC candidate to pick nomination forms. Other incumbent MPs who have also picked FDC nomination forms include Mr Robert Centenary (Kasese Municipality), Angeline Osegge (Soroti Woman), and Cecilia Ogwal (Dokolo Woman).
Mr Centenary has expressed his readiness to serve his people in Kasese for the second term, while Ms Ogwal declined to confirm picking the forms, citing the role of the party spokesperson. Ms Osegge, on the other hand, said she had not yet picked her nomination forms.
