On July 2, 2020, Suna North MP Millie Mabona expressed her extreme displeasure with the Standard Newspapers over a sexist cartoon published in their Thursday edition.
The cartoon, which depicted Governor Anne Waiguru in a demeaning manner, sparked outrage among many, including the vocal legislator who firmly believes in woman power.
Millie took to Facebook to condemn the media house's editorial department for allowing such content to continue, stating that it was not only sexist but also reduced women leaders to sex objects.
She further alleged that the media house had previously taken action against the cartoonist, but it was not due to his sexist content against women, but rather due to political pressure.
Millie emphasized that the person responsible for editorial content is the newspaper, not the cartoonist, and that the media house should take responsibility for allowing such content to be published.
She concluded by calling on FIDA to take up the issue as an impact litigation case and to put an end to the 'madharau' against women leaders.
