On July 3, 2020, Nation Media Group (NMG) made headlines with a massive restructuring exercise that saw 40 employees, including popular news anchor Ken Mijungu, lose their jobs.

According to reports, the sackings were part of NMG's efforts to cope with the economic effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Ken Mijungu, who had been with NTV for seven years, took to Twitter to express his gratitude to God and the network for the opportunity.

"The axe fell on the NTV newsroom, and I was on its way. Seven years in those corridors summed up in a two-page letter of termination. We live to fight another day. Thanks to God, He remains the greatest, thank you @ntvkenya for the opportunity and thank you for always staying tuned," he tweeted.

Ken Mijungu was a familiar face on NTV, presenting the 9 pm bulletin and hosting shows like AMLive and Side Bar.

Other employees who lost their jobs include editor Mark Agutu, HR Veronica Chirchir, Gabriel Chege of IT, agriculture editor Julius Sigei, Martin Mwangi (Deputy Chief Sub Editor), output editor Joe Mbuthia, Revise Editor Henry Gekonde, Peter Choge, Momanyi Maosa, and Nancy Ogutu from the online department.
