On June 30, Jacque Maribe, a former Citizen TV anchor, sparked speculation about her potential entry into politics during an Instagram interview with DJ Mista Dru. The interview took place just a year after she quit her job at Citizen TV in July 2019.
Maribe was asked about her interest in contesting for a seat in Murang'a County, specifically the Kiharu parliamentary seat or the Murang'a Women Representative post, currently held by Jubilee's Ndindi Nyoro and Sabina Chege respectively.
Maribe's response was cautious, stating, "It is an opportunity. Given the opportunity why not? I have not ruled it out but what I am saying is I have not officially declared it," she said.
Maribe's family has a history of involvement in politics, with her father, Maribe Mwangi, contesting for the Kiharu parliamentary seat in 2007 but losing to Barnabas Muturi Mwangi of Sisi Kwa Sisi Party.
Maribe has been out of remand on bail since October 2018, after being allegedly linked to the murder of businesswoman Monica Kimani, alongside Jowie Irungu. Jowie Irungu was released from Kamiti Maximum Security Prison in March 2020, after serving 17 months of his sentence.
Maribe's comments have left many wondering if she will indeed contest for a political seat in the 2022 elections. While she has not officially declared her intentions, her words have sparked a lot of interest and speculation among her followers.
