Kenya is grappling with a rising number of Covid-19 cases, with the country recording 268 new cases in 24 hours on Thursday, July 2, 2020.

As part of containment efforts, the government has locked down several counties, imposed a night-time curfew, and rolled out mass testing in virus hotspots.

CGTN Africa's Nairobi office has been closed after six staff members tested positive for Covid-19, with operations suspended and staff entering self-quarantine for 14 days.

The government has also shut borders and banned public gatherings to slow the spread of the virus.

According to the Health Chief Administrative Secretary Rashid Aman, 20 patients were discharged from health facilities in the last 24 hours, bringing the total recoveries to 2,109.

Kenya has now recorded a total of 6,951 confirmed cases, with 259 of the new cases being Kenyans and nine foreigners.
