On July 2, 2020, media personality Anita Nderu sparked outrage on social media with a 55-second video promoting Fresh Fri cooking oil. The advert, which was widely criticized, featured Anita Nderu dressed in a white see-through robe with a black pair of underwear beneath, entertaining two men in her kitchen.
The video, which was deemed to be promoting the gay agenda, featured sexually-suggestive dance moves and conversations that many Kenyans found to be distasteful. In one of the conversations, one of the men says, 'Let's bend, I like sitting on it.' Anita Nderu also asks her company, 'What are your favourite categories on Pornhub?' One of the men responds, 'I do not watch Pornhub, I am Pornhub, honey!'
Dr Ezekiel Mutua, the CEO of the Kenya Film Classification Board, has condemned Anita Nderu's actions, calling her a 'cheap, attention-seeking public figure' who lacks moral decency. Dr Mutua stated that Anita Nderu's actions were 'foolish and obnoxious' and that she was trying to force the gay agenda down Kenyans' throats.
Dr Mutua also stated that he suspects Anita Nderu has received funding from the LGBTQ community to promote their activities in Kenya. He added that the film board will write to Pwani Oil, the manufacturer of Fresh Fri cooking oil, to find out whether the company was involved in the production of the advert.
Meanwhile, Anita Nderu has taken to Twitter to state that the backlash directed at her was meant to 'bully her into silence.' However, Dr Mutua has taken issue with her statement, saying that she is trying to portray herself as a role model to young girls but is struggling with her own moral decency.
