On June 30, 2020, Bill Gates recognized the efforts of Dr. Bernard Olayo, a selfless Kenyan doctor who has made significant contributions to aid Covid-19 patients in Kenya and across Africa.

Dr. Olayo founded Hewatele, an innovative oxygen supply company, to help alleviate the shortage of medical oxygen in Kenya and across Africa.

According to Bill Gates, healthcare facilities across the continent face shortages of basic medical supplies needed to treat the respiratory disease, including oxygen, which is often taken for granted in rich countries.

Dr. Olayo's innovative approach has ensured that there is always more than enough oxygen available at each facility, cutting the market price for oxygen in Kenya by 50%.

Bill Gates praised Dr. Olayo's efforts, stating that his work has already helped save the lives of thousands of children and adults and will save many more in the future.

Dr. Olayo's story is a testament to the dedication and sacrifice of healthcare workers who are working tirelessly to combat the Covid-19 pandemic.
