Protests in Ethiopia have led to a government crackdown, with the authorities accusing unnamed external forces and local opposition figures of fueling the unrest.
The protests began after the death of popular Oromo musician Hachalu Hundessa, who was shot dead in Addis Ababa on June 29, 2020.
Clashes between police and mourners during his burial in Ambo, west of the capital, further escalated the situation.
At least 87 people, including four police officers, have been killed in the violence that has spread across the country.
Several journalists from the Oromia Media Network, owned by a local politician who was arrested on Thursday, have also been detained by police.
Despite the unrest, Addis Mayor Takele Uma has urged people to resume work, saying that normalcy is expected to be restored soon.
