NTV Kenya has responded to a lawsuit threat from Embakasi South MP Babu Owino, who had demanded a public apology within two days for a feature story that he claimed painted him in a negative light.
Published on July 3, 2020, the TV station captioned the story 'Babu shoots the messenger', a clear indication that they would not be backing down.
According to the station, Babu Owino had asked for a public apology within two days, claiming that the feature story had 'slanderous and libelous statements' that had opened him up to public criticism.
However, NTV Kenya maintained that the story was a noble attempt to show the MP's improved state, and that it was not intended to attack or accuse him.
The incident that led to the lawsuit threat occurred at the B Club in Kilimani estate, Nairobi, where Babu Owino allegedly shot DJ Evolve in the neck.
Police say the lawmaker argued with the DJ before drawing his gun and shooting him.
Questions have been raised as to why the MP was allowed into the club with a firearm.
